Abstract | Frost heaving around footings of transmission towers is thought to be aggravated by excessive heat withdrawal from the soil by the steel superstructures. The study described in this report is a first attempt to assess the severity of the problem under relatively simple conditions and was undertaken in response to inquiries by designers. |
