| Résumé | This report presents the results of pressure loss tests made on a low pressure model of a tip turbine volute duct, having an axial discharge.
Over-all pressure losses, including the nozzle loss, have been measured and found to be 15.2 percent of the supply total pressure (gauge).
An investigation into some of the factors affecting the peripheral discharge distribution has been made. Results have shown that this is very dependent on the total pressure distribution at the volute entry. The geometry of the volute at the re-entry zone can also upset the uniform discharge and affect the over-all losses by as much as 0.7 percent.
A series of tests made using an annular discharge nozzle in place of the standard bladed segments has indicated that discharge air angles are within 3-1/2 degrees of a mean value and that the pressure loss due to the duct is about 5 percent of the supply total pressure (gauge). |
