| Résumé | Fire behavior of cross-laminated timber (CLT) has been well documented in the past decade by several research organizations and universities across North America, Europe and Japan. The recent revision of ANSI/APA PRG 320 introduced two mandatory adhesive test methods to greatly reduce the potential for heat delamination. This research evaluated CLT face-bonded with adhesives that meet these new requirements, namely with respect to the resulting charring rate and potential contribution to fire growth and intensity in a compartment fire. The results suggest that CLT manufactured with an adhesive that meets the 2018 ANSI/APA PRG 320 requirements could be designed using a constant one-dimensional charring rate during a standard fire exposure. Results of room fire tests also showed that compartments made of CLT elements manufactured with non-delaminating adhesives eventually reached burn-out of the fuel content in several tests, leading to self-extinguishment. |
