| Résumé | This test program was undertaken to investigate the feasibility of utilizing high pressure compressor delivery air bled from a J-75 turbojet engine as a source of rig turbine drive power. The tests proved that this application is feasible from an engine operational standpoint. Bleed flowrates up to 26 lbₘ/sec at 36O°C and 85 psig were extracted without noticeable detriment to engine operation.
Preliminary design of a rig drive turbine matched to this air supply resulted in a reasonable configuration with an estimated output of 3500 HP at 18,000 rpm.
Some comments on installation, operating procedures, and operating costs are included to aid in the assessment of this source of compressed air for a particular application. |
