| Résumé | The first two parts of a comprehensive study of automotive cooling air system performance under ram air conditions have been completed successfully. A full scale model configuration and operating procedure for the wind tunnel have been established, and preliminary results indicate that it was possible to simulate the road performance in the wind tunnel adequately
To achieve the above it was necessary to make fully instrumented road tests at three speeds (0, 50 and 100 km/hr) and to place the vehicle on an elevated ground board in the wind tunnel. Vehicle blockage effects were minimized by optimizing the vehicle's position along the ground board, relative to its leading edge, and by controlling the engine bay back pressure independently by means of remotely placed suction machinery.
Further minor refinements in reducing local blockage effects were indicated and are about to be implemented. |
