Slow drift oscillations of a large vertical surface-piercing circular cylinder: preliminary data analysis of phase I towing tank experiments

Résumé
IMD conducted a series of experiments in the Clearwater Towing Tank with a large (0.8m diameter, 3.3m long) vertical surface-piercing circular cylinder. The objective of the experiments was to measure the hydrodynamic loads on this cylinder while it undergoes free and forced in-line oscillations, while exposed to various combinations of calm water, uniform current and waves. The simulated conditions correspond to those that a single leg of a Tension Leg Platform experiences during slow drift oscillations in waves. A companion report defines the scope of the experiments and describes the experimental procedures, and finally outlines future experiments which would continue the study. This report presents the data in coherent form, and provides preliminary analysis of the data. The report makes suggestions for further analysis of the data.
