Résumé | Environmental psychology is the study of how we, as individuals and as part of groups, interact with our physical settings — how we experience and change the environment, and how our behaviour and experiences are changed by the environment. Environmental psychologists: seek to improve our stewardship of natural resources and help mitigate climate change, including how best to adapt to it; understand how to increase the habitability of the built environment; study everyday settings in relation to human attitudes, emotions, and behaviours; recognize that we actively cope with, and shape, environments; we do not passively respond to environmental forces; and, work in conjunction with other disciplines. This chapter, part of a handbook for careers in applied psychology, describes the field of environmental psychology, outlines some career paths available in the field, and provides an overview of the educational requirements for these careers. |
