Résumé	Dangerous phenomena encountered by a ship operating in quartering, extreme waves are discussed on the basis of the results of the capsizing model tests carried out by IMD/SSPA. The emphasis is put on the hydrodynamic effects generated on the submerged part of the deck. It is concluded that the case of ship advancing in quartering, extremely steep waves is the most general and most dangerous case.
