| Résumé | An x-pull point is a significant piece of equipment. It provides validation between measured forces and applied forces. The current x-pull point has to be replaced. The effort required preparing and completing the necessary calibration is inefficient. Hence, it is necessary to change the current design and make it less time and labour consuming. The design objective was to make the x-pull point adjustable in both the vertical and lateral direction. Maximum capacity is rated for 275 lbs (125 kg). A conceptual preliminary design of the x-pull point is completed along with failure analysis. Failure breakdown consist of rough hand calculations and finite element analysis. The critical deflection and stress is located in the frame. This is due to the inherit characteristics of the design (long cantilever arm). The deflection at maximum capacity is equal to 0.0685'' (1.7 mm). Even at a load of 500 lbs (227 kg) the maximum deflection is only 0.146" (3.7 mm). The material will not yield at this stress. Design objectives and design criteria have been achieved. |
