| Résumé | The reheat system fitted to the Derwent VIII engine (port) of the Meteor aircraft VT 196 for flight testing is capable of remaining alight up to the aircraft’s ceiling. However, the standard spark igniter Initially fitted has only succeeded in lighting the reheat up to 20,000 ft altitude. It is essential to provide an igniter capable of operating at greater altitudes. A "hot streak" igniter has been developed and shows lighting characteristics markedly superior to those of the spark igniter when tested under adverse conditions on the test bed engine. It has complied with conditions for flight approval laid down by W/C McMillan at R.C.A.F.H.Q on 3 March 1955.
This report describes the system and testsj it is concluded that the results obtained justify submission for official flight approval. |
