| Résumé | This report reviews participation by the NAE Flight Research Laboratory in the second experimental year of the Summer Cumulus Cloud Project, a program to assess the feasibility of inducing precipitation over forest fire areas by seeding cumulus formations. Other participants in this weather modification experiment are the Forest Fire Research Institute and the Cloud Physics Research Division of Environment Canada.
During the first half of 1975, the NAE Twin Otter was instrumented with a variety of equipment to measure and record microphysical data within clouds, as well as other meteorological variables and aircraft flight parameters. The T-33 instrumentation was improved and seeding pods in which to burn silver iodide flares were developed. A two-week cloud seeding experiment utilizing both aircraft was conducted at Yellowknife during July. Data from these flights and others near Ottawa are presented. A total of 139 hours were flown in support of this project during 1975. |
