Résumé
This paper presents the development and validation of a 3D material model for finite element analysis of extruded aluminium crash structures. A large quantity of experimental tests have demonstrated that extruded aluminium profiles are more anisotropic than aluminium sheets. To correctly predict these large variations of stress and strain anisotropies, the new material model is based on Yoshida yield functions with an associated flow rule. The model also includes a phenomenological damage evolution which was developed for plastic instability and fracture prediction and was calibrated for complex states of stress and strain paths. The new material model was validated with crash rail tests and correctly predicts the crash performance of aluminium crash structures.
