| Abstract | A theory, suitable for digital computation, has been developed that accounts for the main features of the performance of the NRC vertical-axis wind turbine. The turbine is described in Reference 1.
The theory takes into account the curved blade shape, and the effects of aerofoil stalling on performance. A comparison is made between theoretical and experimental power coefficient and rotor drag coefficient. Numerical results are presented to show the theoretical effects of geometric variables such as blade solidity and rotor height-diameter ratio, and of variations in aerofoil aerodynamic characteristics. |
