Abstract
A number of old houses demolished in Ottawa in recent years were constructed of horizontal planks laid on edge, overlapped at corners and held together with rectangular nails. The planks were covered with boards or brick veneer on the outside and finished inside with furring, lath and plaster. Examples of the construction, which may have been an extensively-used building technique in Ottawa before 1900, are described.
