Abstract | The authors went out with scientists from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) of Dartmouth, N.S. on a scientific mission aboard the oceanographic research vessel C.S.S. Parizeau. The vessel's activity was confined to the eastern half of the Scotian Shelf. The objective of the mission was, firstly, to sample and map biological life forms at the bottom of the food chain of marine animals (maiNewfoundlandy phytoplanktons and zooplanktons) and, secondly, to test several new instruments being developed by BIO, including a digital optical plankton counter (OPC) and a new moving-vessel CTD system (MV-CTD). This report describes the work done and the experiences gained from the mission. |
