| Abstract | This document contains a project proposal, submitted as a Ph.D. thesis proposal to Carleton University in September 2009, for the development of a method for evaluating stall detection techniques. The first section contains a general background on stall and surge in gas turbine systems, followed by a detailed literature survey in the second section, and the proposed work in the third section. The proposed work includes experiments to measure the high-frequency fluctuation of static pressure over the rotor blades of two axial compressors as they approach stall, some thermodynamic engine modelling, signal processing and data management. A work schedule is proposed, including estimated timelines for experimental set-up, documentation of the research progress, and publication. |
