| Abstract | At the request of the Canadian Transport Commission (CTC), measurements of groundborne vibrations produced by passing freight trains were carried out inside several residential properties situated close to the CN railway tracks in Mont St. Hilaire, Quebec. The measured levels were compared to some existing criteria on human exposure to building vibrations in order to assess the severity of the problem. The results of the measurements, made at four residential locations, show that the vibration velocity levels in one-third octave bands exceed the exposure limits for humans inside buildings, as proposed in draft ANSI Standard. The integrated levels exceed the criteria proposed by Wilson for rail transit systems. |
