| Abstract | At the request of Electrolux (Canada) Ltd., the Engine Laboratory agreed to carry out an experimental programme on the acoustic performance of two existing and one newly developed vacuum cleaner models. The main objectives of these experiments were to evaluate the noise nuisance caused to an operator of these devices and to locate the sources of noise to suggest means for its reductions. The experimental programme was proposed to be taken up in two phases, the measurements of sound of each complete unit forming Phase I, and aerodynamic and acoustic performance of the motor blower units removed from the cleaners comprising Phase II.
Under Phase I sound measurements were made on each of the three units following the procedure outlined in the draft ASTM Standards "method for obtaining sound measurements of household vacuum cleaners" and sound power radiated by two units which are currently under production and development were measured. This report describes the details of the tests carried out under Phase I testing. |
