| Abstract | This paper describes oil debris monitoring tests, using SENSYS magnetic sensors, carried out on T56, F404 and J85 gas turbine test cell engines. The tests were performed to study the output signals from the sensors installed to detect ferrous debris generated during normal engine operation. All three engine types showed some initial (unconfirmed) ferrous activity, which declined to a low level within 10 to 20 minutes from start-up. Tests on the J85 showed that, to compensate for rapid oil temperature changes, program changes in the microcontroller will be required. Initial oil sampling techniques for off-line analysis need to be modified for future tests. The sensors could not size the debris but gave a concentration based on the manufacturer's calibration. |
