Abstract	The history of the profile of snow and ice thickness of a sea ice cover, across 7 km. wide Mould Bay, has been studied over a period of two years. It aged from young ice to second-year ice. This is presented along with the observations made on the changes that took place in the physical, chemical (salinity) and microstructure of the ice. The paper also presents details on the structure of the air or gas bubbles trapped in the second-year ice and of the interface between the old ice and the new ice below it.
