Abstract | We discuss the combined effect of intense AC terahertz and a strong static magnetic field on interacting electrons in mesoscopic systems. The main nonperturbative effect of the intense AC field is symmetry breaking and associated phase transitions in correlated electronic systems "dressed" with photons. These processes are controlled by the polarization and intensity of the radiation. Exact results for quasi-two-dimensional electrons and parabolic quantum dots are given in the form of a Kohn's theorem generalized to arbitrary field strength and shape. Numerical results for a few-electron quantum dot in a strong magnetic field illustrate the general approach. |
