| Abstract | Current concepts of gene structure and regulation were formulated largely on the basis of biochemical and molecular genetical analyses of prokaryote cells. Their rapid growth makes it possible to obtain large quantities of single cells and measure biochemical and physiological events relatively quickly. It is not surprising that microorganisms became the material of choice for investigations on the metabolic and molecular genetic regulation of growth and differentiation in living cells. |
