| Abstract | The motion of pack ice caused by the incident wave action, and the interaction between the ship and ice pieces are studied in this paper. The problem is divided into two parts: a) the motion of an ice piece caused by the incident wave action; and b) the interaction between the ship and the pack ice. As the consequence of the ship and pack ice interaction, based on the results of the pack ice motion, the ship resistance for the ship moving in the pack ice field is formulated. Numerical results and plotted figures are also presented. |
