Abstract | Experimental and theoretical studies were carried out to predict the fire resistance of reinforced concrete columns made with materials commonly used in China. For this purpose, the thermal properties at elevated temperatures were determined for the siliceous and carbonate aggregate concretes, of which the columns were made. Using these properties as input data in a mathematical model, calculations were made of the fire resistance of seven columns, which were constructed at the Tianjin Fire Research Institute and tested at the National Fire Laboratory of the Institute for Research in Construction, National Research Council of Canada. |
