Abstract
Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) converts biomass to bio-crude, gas, solid residue and aqueous phase. Aqueous phase contains of bio-crude with relatively high amount of heteroatoms such as N, O, and S that made the bio-crude soluble in water and reduce their heating value. Hydrothermal liquefaction wastewater contains organic acids, nitrogen and sulfur compounds and phenol derivatives. Presence of nitrogen and ammonia diminish the self-reliance of the HTL process. In this work. HTL aqueous phase obtained from the liquefaction of food waste was upgraded by catalytic hydrothermal gasification (CHG) process. In the first series of experiments the effect of parameters such as glycerol, catalyst, catalyst activation and removing ammonia from HTWW was studied. In the second series of experiments, the effect of various catalysts such as olivine, Na/ZSM-5, Ru/C and Fe+Cu+K/SiO2 was studied.
