| Abstract | We present a unified description of the dynamic response of superfluid ⁴He using perturbation theory. We show that the characteristic features of the ⁴He inelastic neutron scattering spectra at T~1 K can be fully described by considering only density fluctuations. We also discuss how the response changes when the temperature is raised through the superfluid phase to the normal-fluid phase, and we argue that these changes principally reflect the behavior expected because of the Bose statistics obeyed by all the ⁴He atoms rather than being effects of the depletion of the Bose condensate. |
