Automation of Technical Services: The Challenge of the 1980s

Abstract
The next decade will see the role and functions of technical services within libraries modified. This paper explores the prospect of integrated library management systems, using as example the National Library of Canada's Dobis system. Future developments of technical services are addressed under a topic covering prospects for automated systems. Developments are seen as having a positive impact on services for users.
