| Abstract | A revealed dangerous hydrodynamic phenomenon generated on the submerged part of the deck and bulwark when a ship operates in quartering, extreme waves is presented in details. Examples of model experiments where this phenomenon was evident and was a decisive factor in the ultimate capsize are presented. The magnitude of the heeling moment is discussed and preliminary results of the mathematical model of the hydrodynamic effects developed are presented. |
