| Abstract | We present theoretical and experimental results on the evolution of the threshold absorption of a 2D electron gas as a function of electron density. We pay particular attention to the low density regime where the spectrum evolves from an exciton to a Fermi edge singularity. The many-body origin of the Moss-Burstein shift is emphasized. |
