| Abstract | A Sikorsky S-61 helicopter, equipped with either polyethylene or stainless steel leading edges combined with the aerodynamic discontinuity on the main rotor blades, was flight tested in the helicopter spray rig. The various configurations and the materials tested did not restrict the formation of large amounts of ice on the rotor blades, and in many instances tail rotor damage occurred when these large formations of ice eventually were shed from the main rotor blades. |
