Abstract | The concrete substrate of a deck or slab needs to be carefully prepared for the application of a protective coating or for the replacement of its damaged surface. To ensure that proper bonding can occur, surface contaminants and loose materials have to be removed. This is not an easy task. For one thing, the zones of deteriorated concrete are not always clearly definable; for another, the choice of appropriate preparatory methods is wide, from chemical cleaning to scarifying to blast cleaning. When the surface is dry, clean and level, only then is it ready to receive its topping. |
