| Abstract | The work presented herein is a supplement to Laboratory memorandum NRC-ENG-67 and covers specific interest areas previously not included.
A detailed study was made of measured inflow and exit plane distortions of a fan-in-wing model under crossflow conditions. Analytical models were devised to generate mathematically as closely as possible the relevant character of the experimental distortions.
These models provide not only the basic distortion variables on which the hurried fan has to act, but also provide the matching external/internal flow Interface conditions.
A method is presented for the calculation of rotor and stator blade row performance for given fan speed, back-pressure and flow area information. This method is a simple mean-line direct design calculation making use of existing experimentally measured cascade loss and deflection data.
Consideration is given to the means of changing radial velocity and various aspects of secondary motions are discussed. The radial velocities induced by secondary flow and the bound and trailing vortex networks representing primary flow deflection are discussed in view of the published work in the literature.
Further consideration is given to dynamic equilibrium in axial planes and the problem is reduced by dropping radial equilibrium requirements. |
