| Abstract | From June 18 to July 17, 1997, the NRC Twin Otter atmospheric research aircraft was operated from Oklahoma City, U.S.A., in the Southern Great Plains 1997 Hydrology Experiment (SGP97). The primary role of the aircraft was to measure the vertical fluxes of sensible and latent heat, C02, ozone and momentum in the atmospheric boundary layer, along with supporting meteorological and radiometric data. Approximately 400 flux runs and 100 soundings were flown in 27 project flights over rural areas near Oklahoma City. Since publication of an interim report on October 2, 1997, the Twin Otter data have undergone a planned re-analysis incorporating updated calibrations and adjustments to the measured wind data using a Kalman-filtering technique. This final report documents the flight program, lists the instrumentation aboard the aircraft, and presents a summary of run-averaged data from each flux run. It will serve as the official documentation of the Twin Otter data transferred in February 1998 to the Distributed Active Archive Center at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Finally, the report includes the results of some special studies, such as intercomparisons with flux towers and a second flux measuring aircraft used in SGP97, and an examination of the effects of surface heterogeneity on the boundary layer above the two tracks flown most often in SGP97. |
