Abstract
Daylighting is believed to reduce lighting energy needs for atrium ground floors and adjacent spaces. This study investigated this hypothesis by monitoring the daylight contribution and electric lighting consumption of two atrium buildings. One was equipped with a photocontrolled continuous dimming lighting system. The other was equipped with a photocontrolled automatic on/off lighting system. The daylighting performance was evaluated based on the daylight contribution to the indoor illuminance and the amount of electrical lighting displaced by daylighting via the daylight-linked lighting control systems.
