Abstract | A method is presented for the time domain simulation of motion in waves of ships advancing at a constant forward speed. The method provides a unified solution to the radiation-diffraction problem, using an approximate form of the hull imperability diffraction potential. A perturbation technique can be applied to extend the method to problems involving large motions of ships. A more direct, although less rigorous, approach is introduced to simulate large ship motions, including capsizing in steep and breaking waves. Examples illustrating good agreement with experiment are shown. |
