Abstract
Elastic properties such as ultrasonic velocity and attenuation are important and sometimes convenient parameters which can be used to evaluate certain materials. Nondestructive methods, together with measurement systems allowing the measurement of these properties, may be essential in the manufacturing and utilization of such materials. In this paper the applications of automated ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements and scanning acoustic imaging systems for the evaluation and design of piezoelectric ceramics, sheet metals, silica glasses and some composites are presented.
