Abstract
What happens when a building, which once served as a stately residence, becomes a museum? A good example can be seen in the case of Laurier House, Sir Wilfrid's former home. Turned into a museum, it was suddenly being subjected to unprecedented high relative humidity levels. The result: serious condensation problems with its single-hung wood windows and metal casement windows. Replacing some of the windows, which increases thermal performance and hence condensation control, is an option that must be weighed against the issue of the building's heritage value.
