Abstract | Spalling, cracking and bulging of the brick and stone veneers of tall concrete buildings occur because of the shortening, due to shrinkage and creep, of the concrete structure, to which the veneer is rigidly attached, thus causing high stress. The stress may be avoided by providing a movement joint below the shelf angles of brick veneer construction. |
