| Abstract | This report describes the methods used to perform three-dimensional finite element method based calculations for the torsional stiffness of the gas turbine and generator bed for C.F.A.V. QUEST and summarizes the results obtained. The bed forms a thin walled structure that carries the loads of the Gas Turbine Engine, the Direct Current Electric Generator and the Alternating Current Electric Generator. Six external load cases for the bed loading were taken into account. The main conclusion to be drawn is that the significant contributions to the relative displacements of the three machines being supported by the bed come not from the overall flexibility of the bed but from the local deformations of the bed top plate around all ten points of connection of these machines to the bed. |
