Abstract
Designs for drainage pipes in Ontario are provided in various Ontario Provincial Standards Specifications (OPSS) and Drawings (OPSD). This paper presents comparisons between the OPSS and Standard Installation Direct Design (SIDD). The SIDD method was developed through extensive finite element analyses. It can improve the pipe installation practice and reduce cost by lessening the requirements in bedding and compaction, and allowing the use of native backfill materials.
