Abstract | The role of information technologies is becoming increasingly significant in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and now is a popular buzzword in construction industry and AEC sector. While highlighting the myths and facts in the BIM arena within the AEC industry, this presentation will focus on introducing BIM as a process of creating, sharing and populating facility data in the form of digital models of a new or built environment for the purpose of communicating and collaborating over the entire lifecycle of buildings. The presentation content highlights the current industry practices to explain what BIM is, BIM as a tool, BIM as a process, the differences between CAD and BIM, tools and technologies supporting BIM process, technical and commercial challenges towards the adoption and implementation of BIM. |
