| Abstract | During Canada's pioneering work on the development of canola as a new crop, mostly between 1950 and 1970, few if any people could envisage the enormous and world-wide acceptance that this crop would find, and find quickly.
Now in 1992 the multi-billion dollar impact of canola is clearly seen in fields and products throughout the world. At the same time, Canadians are beginning to forget that the origins of this impact lie right here in Canada. This book tells the story of how canola was created by a relatively small group of dedicated scientists mostly in Canadian government and university laboratories. It's a story of their vision, and of long and close cooperation among individuals and institutions. It's also a story of how creative research works to create better futures. And it's a story about the Canadian spirit. |
