Abstract | This report was prepared as part of a joint research project between Canadian Ice Service and Canadian Hydraulics Centre. During the project the properties of level Arctic sea and ridged sea ice will be measured in late spring and early summer 2002. The third season of measurements will be made on decaying level ice. The 2002 field program involves an added component; intermittent measurements of the properties of ridged ice will be made. This report provides instructions on measuring and documenting the properties of decaying first year sea ice. Outlined is a procedure by which the confined compressive strength of sea ice is measured with a borehole jack. Also included are instructions pertaining to measurements of ice thickness, ice temperature, density, salinity, freeboard and snow depth. |
