Abstract | Ammonia has been photodissociated by 1215 Å radiation and the emission spectrum of the resulting excited NH has been studied. It has been found that two components of the Λ doublets of the c 1Λ - a 1Δ band of NH have unequal intensities. This inequality is shown to arise from a differe in the populations of the two Λ components of the 1Λ state resulting from the dissociation of excited NH3. No satisfactory explanation for this unexpected population distribution is known. |
