| Abstract | The ever-changing operational roles for fast surface vessels require that such craft may need to differ in major dimensions and speed from present day designs. Designers and engineers carrying out parametric studies have had difficulty in estimating the performance of the future ships by extrapolating existing data. Available results of tests with models of methodical series forms neither cover the required range of parameters adequately, nor give very much information on seakeeping, which is considered of major importance in new designs.
The present series of model tests in calm water and in waves are intended not only to supply some of the missing data, but also to explore the effects of radical departures from normal ship proportions and hull form which may lead to important improvements in performance, particularly in waves. |
