| Abstract | The computational simulation of flows over the generic Rotor Body Interaction (ROBIN) configuration was re-vised with the CFD-FASTRAN flow solver, which has recently been enhanced by the implementation of low Mach number preconditioning and dual time-stepping. These two enhancements are essential for accurate and efficient prediction of the flow fields around rotorcraft, which are characterized by time-dependence and mixing regions that contain both low- and high-speed flows. The helicopter model studied in this work consists of a fuselage, a four-bladed rotor, and tails. The results of this work show that low Mach number preconditioning and dual time-stepping greatly improve the accuracy and efficiency of CFD-FASTRAN for helicopter flows. |
