| Abstract | An accurate knowledge of the physics of clouds is essential to further progress in the field of icing research. A qualitative discussion is presented of the instruments fitted and planned for the experimental icing North Star aircraft for nephelometric measurements. The principles of the theory, construction and operation of instruments to measure liquid water content, cloud particle size and distribution and air temperature are considered briefly.
This paper was specially prepared for presentation to the Second Meeting of the Commonwealth Advisory Aeronautical Research Council in Ottawa during September, 1950. |
