Abstract | Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) wishes to investigate and assess the potentially exploitable tidal energy resources located near communities in northern Canada and make the information available to stakeholders through a software application/tool with functionality for geospatial analysis and interactive mapping. This first work package constitutes a preliminary assessment of prior tidal energy resource assessments, energy needs in northern communities, and available oceanographic and energy use data for future tidal energy modelling efforts. Based on the results of this scoping review, the four northern communities of greatest interest for detailed hydrodynamic study of local tides at present are: Iqaluit, Kuujjuaq, Igloolik and Cape Dorset. |
