Abstract	This article reviews important issues for assessing the long-term performance of wall assemblies, focusing on the interrelation between experience, testing and modeling. It presents some basic information related to the function of walls and their performance requirements. It also offers insights into the meaning of durability and establishes links between the effects of environmental loads on walls, the response of the different components and highlights the importance of moisture as the primary agent of deterioration in buildings.
