Abstract | This report presents the achievements of Phase 2 of the NRC-Transport Canada (TC) collaboration on the experimental investigation of tolerance for icing of small-size propellers used to power small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). Since data on icing of these propellers at high rotational speeds (RPMs) are scarce, the main objective of the study is to characterize icing of small propellers at high RPMs and provide TC with scientific data to support the development of a safe and commercially viable regulatory framework for UAS operations in Canada. This research activity is conducted as part of Transport Canada’s efforts to create an evidence-based regulatory framework for safe drone operations. |
